Utilizing the Rasch Model to Develop and Evaluate Items for the Tacit Knowledge Inventory for Superintendents (TKIS)

چکیده
Tacit knowledge was originally introduced into the professional literature by Michael Polanyi and later made popular by researchers in a variety of domains. Measuring this implicit form of procedural knowledge requires multiple approaches to adequately “capture” what is often known, but not easily articulated. The present study combines use of Sternberg et al.’s framework for capturing domain-specific tacit knowledge with that of Rasch modeling to develop and validate items for use on a newly developed tacit knowledge inventory. Development of the Tacit Knowledge Inventory for Superintendents (TKIS) occurred in three phases, including two phases of piloting and Rasch analysis. For illustrative purposes, presentation of results is limited to the Rasch analyses conducted on interpersonal tacit knowledge items. However, the methodology extends its usefulness to researchers and practitioners to guide the development process of similar assessments. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-60960-555-1.ch017

Tacit Knowledge 1 Running head: SUPERINTENDENT TACIT KNOWLEDGE Utilizing the Rasch Model to Develop and Validate Items for the Tacit Knowledge Inventory for Superintendents (TKIS)
Tacit knowledge was originally introduced into the professional literature by Michael Polanyi (1946, 1966, 1976), and later made popular by Sternberg and his colleagues (e.g. Sternberg et al., 2000; Wagner & Sternberg, 1985). Tacit knowledge is best characterized as context-specific, procedural knowledge that is gained from personal experience, rather than through direct training or instruction...

متن کاملEconomic order quantity model for growing items with incremental quantity discounts
Certain inventory items are living organisms, for example livestock, and are therefore capable of growing during the replenishment cycle. These items often serve as various saleable food items downstream in supply chains. The purpose of this paper is to develop a lot sizing model for growing items if the supplier of the items offers incremental quantity discounts. A mathematical model is derive...
متن کاملOptimal ordering quantities for substitutable deteriorating items under joint replenishment with cost of substitution
In this paper we develop an inventory model, to determine the optimal ordering quantities, for a set of two substitutable deteriorating items. In this inventory model the inventory level of both items depleted due to demands and deterioration and when an item is out of stock, its demands are partially fulfilled by the other item and all unsatisfied demand is lost. Each substituted item incurs a...
متن کاملInvestigating the relationship among complexity, range, and strength of grammatical knowledge of EFL students
Assessment of grammatical knowledge is a rather neglected area of research in the field with many open questions (Purpura, 2004). The present research incorporates recent proposals about the nature of grammatical development to create a framework consisting of dimensions of complexity, range and strength, and studies which dimension(s) can best predict the stat...
